Rector Emil Ceban is the new President of Rectors’ Council

Professor Emil Ceban, Rector of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, was elected today, January 28, 2022, as President of the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Moldova for the next four years. Twenty of the 24 members, who attended this year's first meeting of the public association, voted unanimously for Rector Ceban’s candidacy.
The new head of the Rectors’ Council of the Republic of Moldova says that he is honored to have obtained the vote of confidence of his counterparts, with whom he intends to combine efforts to strengthen and modernize higher, postgraduate and continuing professional education and align it with European standards by streamlining cooperation at national and international level, increasing the quality of the educational process and excellence in research, the internationalization and diversification of opportunities for professional and personal development of students, etc.

Emil Ceban was born on September 6, 1966 in the village of Lipnic, Ocnița district. During 1973-1981 he studied at the Secondary School in his native village, after which he continued his studies at the National College of Medicine and Pharmacy, Paramedic specialty (1981-1985). Between 1987-1993 he studied at Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Faculty of General Medicine, then served his internship (1993-1994) and pursued doctoral education in Urology (1994-1998). He obtained a law degree at the University of European Studies of Moldova (2008-2012) and a master's degree in economics, research and professional studies in Management at the Academy of Public Administration (2014-2017).
Emil Ceban started his career as resident doctor-urologist at the Republican Clinical Hospital (1993-1994) and Bălți Municipal Hospital (1994). Over the years, he has been working at Nicolae Testemitanu University as: Head of the Students' Trade Union Committee (1993-2000); Assistant Professor at the Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology (1995-2006); Head of Doctoral, Master and Postdoctoral Studies Unit (2003-2010); Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of Employees (2005-2010); Associate Professor at the Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology (2006-2014); Vice-Rector for Education and Social Issues (2010-2015); University Professor at the Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology (2015-present); Vice-Rector for Clinical Activity (2015-2019); Head of Department, Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology (July-October 2019); Rector of Nicolae Testemitanu University (2019-present).
At the same time, he serves as Chairman of: the Society of Urologists of the Republic of Moldova, the Specialized Commission in the field of urology and hemodialysis (2014-2016), the Commission for Attestation of Urologists, Nephrologists and Andrologists (2016-present) of the Ministry of Health.
In 2003, he was awarded the title of Doctor of Medical Sciences, and in 2014 - the title of Doctor Habilitated in Medical Sciences. He is the author of: 5 didactic papers, including a textbook and a compendium, 3 monographs, 195 scientific articles, two patents, 4 certificates of innovation, a clinical protocol and the co-author of 5 textbooks.
For his prodigious work in the field of health care, his contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists and intense methodological-scientific activity, Professor Emil Ceban was awarded Order Glory of Labor (in 2015). He is also the holder of numerous awards, distinctions and mentions obtained at various international salons of research, inventions and technology transfer.
In 2021, he became the Laureate of Constantin Țîbîrnă Prize of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova in the field of medicine and was decorated with Ștefan cel Mare şi Sfânt Badge Order of first degree, on behalf of Ștefan cel Mare şi Sfânt Public Association. Recently, Doctor Honoris Causa of George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Târgu Mureș, Romania, honorary title has been bestowed on him.
